On our team’s first trip to Ambae in 2005, Chief Harry Vuti adopted Aaron into his family. This was done to create a foundation for a long-lasting relationship between the people of Ambae, with Harry as their spokesman, and our mission team. Of course, Aaron was grateful for this unexpected honor and began seeking ways to use this to spread the Gospel. The opportunity came in February, 2007.

Aaron traveled to Ambae to conduct regular teaching, preaching and training sessions. Though Harry had been approached before about studying the Bible, he was not ready to do so until now. Aaron sat down with Chief Harry and spent several hours talking about the Bible, God’s plan to save man from sin, God’s plan in sending Christ, God’s plan to save man, and God’s plan for the church. As we continued to study, Harry realized that he needed to commit himself to Christ. Though baptized as a baby into the Catholic church, and after studying about baptism, Harry was now ready to be baptized for the correct reasons and in the correct manner (immersion) for the forgiveness of his sins.

On 2/26/07 Chief Harry Vuti was baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of his sins and added to the Lord’s church. It was truly amazing to see a Chief humble himself to Christ, claim Jesus as his Lord and Master, and submit to baptism. Though Harry is a man of few emotions, one could tell that he felt like a new person, having been freed from his sin.
