Changing churches is nothing new in Vanuatu. Many change because of family or friends, and many change because of the hope of some great miracle in their life. However, some change for the right reasons. Morgan, a native of Tanna Island, had been involved with the Assemblies of God denomination but lost interest over time. People are always looking for something better but rarely ever find it. Morgan was first introduced to the Lord’s church by friendly association with the existing members and also because he was friends with Peter and Salome, two new members of the church in Etas. He had been attending worship on a regular basis and was studying with me on Mondays. Like many Ni-Vanuatus stuck in denominations, he knew everything wasn’t right, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he was wrong. Some studies on the church and salvation helped to change his thinking. He wants to be a part of something and has found that something in the Lord’s church. On December 3rd after more study of baptism and salvation and much talk about counting the cost, Morgan decided the time was right to come out of the world and enter into the Lord’s church. Timothy baptizing Morgan into Christ followed a short trip to the Teouma River where several brethren were able to witness the work of God in action. The church not only provides a family and a place here in this life but also a place near to the heart of God. Peace with God is the true peace and it is only found in the Lord’s church (Col 3:15).
