Yoland (mentioned previously) introduced us to Willie, her boyfriend, because she wanted us to study with him too. At his invitation, Aaron and I made a three day trip to Epau Village. I studied five lessons with Willie (and others) while there, but Willie wasn't quite ready to make a decision at the time we headed back to town. A week later, Shawnda and Yoland and I traveled back to Epau for a visit. Upon our arrival, Willie immediately asked me to come and talk with him. He excitedly stated that he was now ready to be baptized for the forgiveness of his sins. I expressed my joy, and asked when he had made that decision. Willie answered, "a few days ago." [I had told him before I left last time that as soon as he made the decision, he needed to be baptized...that he DID NOT need to wait for me to be present.] Just to make sure Willie really understood the significance and importance of baptism, I asked, "what if you would have died yesterday while working in the garden?" Willie thought for a moment and his face turned...he realized my point immediately. He stated his realization that he should not have waited, and that he did not want to wait another minute. On the way to the ocean, I talked some more with him about the commitment to Christ he was about to make. It was evident that Willie was committed to the decision he had made, and excited to begin his new life in Christ. Arthur, one of the first Christians in Epau, baptized Willie a few minutes later. We all rejoice with Willie and Yoland, and pray that God will bless this couple greatly as they serve Him. The two plan to be married some time next year. EB |
