Yoland is from the village of Epau, but moved to Vila over a year ago to work. While she was growing up, she and her family attended the Presbyterian church. Some years ago, Eddie Karris and Morris Felix (ni-Vanuatu from Eton Village) began teaching and preaching in Epau. The church began to grow there, and eventually Yoland and her family began attending. A few weeks later, Randy English went to Epau for a week to teach Bible lessons. On our way to Vanuatu in April, we were able to visit with Randy in the Fiji International Airport. He and his family have served as missionaries in in the Pacific for over 14 years, and he had just been Vanuatu conducting a series of lessons. During our discussion with him, he passed on the name of a young lady who had attended his lessons and showed great interest in learning more about God's Word. Once we were settled, Shawnda and Cindy went to SeaView TakeAway to meet Yoland. She immediately accepted their invitation to study. Shawnda led studies with her twice per week and after four weeks Yoland made the life- changing decision to be baptized. We will remember Yoland's conversion fondly, because she exhibited a true desire to first count the cost of discipleship, which led to a very dedicated and deliberate repentance from past sins. Yoland has since asked us to study with her boyfriend, Willie. He lives with her family in Epau. Eric and Aaron made a trip out to Epau that very weekend to study, and made great progress with him. Shawnda, Cindy and Yoland continue to meet every week to study more about God's word. Yoland has already proven to be a great student of the Word, and the smile that is always on her face shows how happy she is to be "in Christ." EB |
